Default stereo mute wire

Can anyone tell me how to hook up my stereo mute wire from STi-R PLUS to a G8 Pontiac? Thanks in advance.

The STi-R Plus' mute wire is only for aftermarket stereos that have a mute wire. Factory stereos, as far as I know, do not have this option.

My stereo has a stereo mute wire for the built in blue tooth. I know which wire it is, but only mutes when it goes to ground. the instructions that came with my detector say to put the yellow wire to the mute wire. Then i'm assuming the green one goes to ground. But this does not work. When i put the green wire to the mute wire it mutes the stereo but stays muted. I'm thinking it has reverse polarity to my stereo. So i'm thinking like a relay set up....

I set of my detector with a multimetre on the yellew and green mute wires. It only puts out a few milliwatts, from the green wire.

Default STi-R Plus mute wire

I'm having an issue with the mute wire aswell, and there's at least one other person on another board complaining too.

I have connected the yellow wire to my stereo's mute, and it does nothing.

I've connected it to a micro relay, which will switch to even very small changes in current, and it still does nothing.

I've double checked all the connections are correct.. I have no idea why I cannot get the mute to work during an alert..

So, can some at Beltronics please answer the following questions so I can determine if I have a faulty unit:

1) Does the YELLOW wire ground out when there is an alert?

2) How many milliamp gets switched on mute? (Important to make sure my stereo or the relay I'm using should be reacting)

3) Does the green wire do anything at all?

Thanks to anyone that can answer these!

The detector will not mute your stereo unless your over a certain speed, from memory its about 45 kph. If you have something that will set your detector off like a laser tester or something that puts out K band try this;

First thing to do is shut down your unit and unplug the GPS antenna from the interface. By doing this the detector doesn't know how fast your moving so you can do it in your garage. If grounding your stereo mute wire mutes your stereo your set. Connect the yellow wire to your stereo mute wire no relays involved. The green wire does nothing. Turn on your detector and stereo, set of your detector with the GPS antenna unplugged. Your stereo should mute.

Let me know how you go.

Ok, I disconnected the GPS and went for a nice drive around the local strip malls. Both X and K Band were detected, and the stereo was never muted.

So, I picked up a telephone extension cable and cut off the female end, plugged the Beltronics stereo mute cable into it and physically grounded the Yellow wire on my newely created cable, and the stereo mutes.... I did this to ensure the Beltronics mute cable and my stereo are working correctly.

So, this leaves me with only two possible problems... Either the mute functionality does not work on the STiR Plus NA or I have a faulty unit.

I'm willing to test or try anything else if you want to shoot me more ideas, or should I call support and arrange a replacement? Either way, thanks for the help!

I've tried with aMute on and off, and tested with both settings going over 65kmph.. nothing works so I guess I have a bad unit..

I'll call support this afternoon and see if I can arrange a replacement unit.

Thanks for your help!

The yellow wire should connect to ground during an alert (note Barry's advise about alerts when traveling slow with GPS signal acquired)

The green wire is a separate ground to use for the radio mute feature if needed. This is only if your STi-R Plus is using a floating ground (a ground separate from the vehicle's). Most shouldn't need to use the green wire.
