Default K Band False Alerts With Blind Spot Detection

I have the STiR Plus in my vehicle and it works very well.

However, the detector goes bonkers with K band alerts whenever I drive near a modern vehicle with blind spot detection and/or radar cruise control. i.e. BMW, Audi, Merc, Lexus, etc....

I recently made a road trip with my wife where we drove separately. Her car has blind spot detection so the entire trip my K band alerts were going bonkers. I had to pull off the road, and I got my laptop out and plugged into the STiR Plus and I disabled K band alerts completely. It was the only solution I could think of so I wouldn't have to listen to alerts all day.

What, if anything, can be done to prevent these K band falses?

For now, I have disabled K band and I have no intention of enabling it again unless there is a solution for filtering modern car electronics. I have not seen any law enforcement using K band in more than 10 years, although I'm sure in some rural, backwoods jurisdictions it still exists.

Make sure that TSR is enabled under bands and use AUTO sensitivity mode to help reduce these false alerts.

Thanks for the reply.

My STiR Plus has always been set for Auto sensitivity and TSR enabled.

I will keep K band disabled as the solution for now. Like I said, there are no K band police radar threats in my area anyway, so it's not much of a risk.

I noticed your post date, 2014. It is now Dec 2015 and I too have turned K band off as no improvement has been made. I do run TSR=ON but to no avail. I am back to relying on my V1 which has a much better filter with very few false alerts. All we can do is HOPE Escort and Beltronics together can at least catch up with V1.

I was under the impression that particular bands of x,k, and ka could be filtered out through the STI-R system. I've never tried it, but i also have the same problem thats been reported here. Has anyone come up with a solution (other than turning K band off completely)?

just found out that the segmentation by band is not available in K band, only Ka band. the beltronics team knows about the issue but cannot give me a solution or time frame around a fix. This is really hard to believe since most of us are probably suffering from these incessent false alarms.

Unfortunately, they are giving off the same bands the detectors are meant to pick up. Each vehicle can be giving off a different frequency, and if it is a frequency an officer can use, they cannot block it out.

thanks,

Greygoose

It is sad to think that we have sunk good money in to what we considered "the best"radar detector system on the market only to find a headache of a system.
The segmentation idea, that is available for the European market, is not a valid option for US market. I have noticed k band falsing from cars all over the 150 wide spectrum.
I think it may well require a much faster processor to read the pattern. I turn off Kband on the road and still rely on the V1 which is extremely quiet and efficient. I actually turned off the entire Beltronics system about two weeks ago. Oddly I have not picked up any Kband official police radar in quite a while but still not willing to run blindly at 80mph down the road.
Let's hope and pray that the best radar detector company, BelScort can one day soon catch up with Valentine One. One can only hope that we will be shown some appreciation for ownership when the fix is in and not require us to pay another arm and leg to have a system that actually works without giving you a heart attack.

Yep its a joke, I just bought the Plus M edition for Multar Radar and Redflex which use K band and its pointless.
how the hell can they release a detector knowing full well it will drive you crazy and become unreliable

Default FIX for BSM dilemma NEEDED

Its crickets from Bel, I've heard that no help is coming as the processor that the STIR Plus uses just can't handle any additional functionality. The dirty secret.

I / we paid a LOT of money for the detector and pro install and Bel offers no solution, no promises, no updates for this... The (only) right thing to do is to have me pull the antenna out of my car and send it to Bel for a replacement model that has BSM under control.

Im beginning to wish I had never read the promises on the web and ads from Bel/Escort and just gotten a V1. Seems like everybody that has that thing LOVES it. Imagine the savings between the two?

Anyway, maybe Bel can respond with something USEFUL for this serious issue. We've already paid for it.

JammerMan,

I have written a couple of threads on this website about the K-band false alert problems with the STiR Plus. I have been informed that there will be NO upgrades to the system that would alleviate the K-band false problem. I have also been informed to run my STiR Plus in AutoSensitivity Mode and have TSR ON. Those settings might help a bit, but still too many false K-band alerts.

When you write that you might send your STiR Plus antenna in to Beltronics for an antenna that has BSM, can you provide more info as to what antenna has BSM from Beltronics?

Are you possibly referring to the Escort 9500ci antenna? If so, does the 9500ci antenna provide better BSM than the STiR Plus antenna?

Thanks!

Default Why no K band segmentation like Escort's 9500ci's recent update?

I bought an STiR+ recently, having owned an Escort 9500ci in the distant past, which worked perfectly in my Porsche. I was in Virginia and DC where undetectability (it works) was important. The 9500ci worked great, so when I went to buy a new system for my new Porsche, I decided on the STiR+ because is offered band segmentation in the Ka bands. I am running Anti Laser Priority 5-head system for laser protection, so I am only concerned with radar at the moment. Since installing the STiR+ I have been suffering like everyone else with the K band falsing. I read what Bel said to do, and implemented TSR off and Autoscan. This had little if any effect on the problem. I am now sorry I didn't bite the bullet and buy a Stinger radar detector. My present "solution" has been to turn off K band, but it leaves me vulnerable. Bel got my hard earned dollars, but it won't happen again, when all we hear from them are crickets. I am now looking to sell the STiR+ and buy a Stinger. I suspect this response won't remain on the boards long.
