STi malfunction

I have an STi detector I bought new in 2008 and really like. Recently it has come up with the SERVICE REQUIRED message and is now going into full LASER alert every time a K or Ka alert starts. The unit is in need of work obviously. My question is, due to it's age, is it worth sending back for service or should I just replace it with a new unit?
