Following the initial rounds held in Tongyeong, South Korea, on November 2nd and 3rd, we now have our top ten cellists who will battle it out in the semi-finals. But here's where it gets controversial... or rather, highly anticipated!

These talented musicians have made it through the first round, and now they face the challenge of performing a 45-50 minute recital with piano. The repertoire includes a diverse range of pieces, from Isang Yun's 'Espace' to Beethoven's op.102 sonatas and Brahms sonatas, as well as works by Schubert, Robert Schumann, Debussy, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev. The semi-finals will take place on November 5th and 6th, and the anticipation is building. Who will make it to the finals and have the opportunity to perform with the Tongyeong Festival Orchestra? The prizes are certainly worth striving for, with a total pool of KRW79,000,000 (£42,100) up for grabs, including the prestigious first prize of KRW30,000,000 (£16,000).

This year's panel is chaired by the esteemed Arto Noras and includes renowned musicians Clive Greensmith, Louise Hopkins, Doo-Min Kim, Kangho Lee, Troels Svane, Andreas Vierziger, Jian Wang, and Hiroyasu Yamamoto.
