BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 11 – On December 10, members of the Azerbaijan-Latvia Interparliamentary Relations Working Group within the Azerbaijani Parliament met with EdgarsSkuja, Latvia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation across key areas, Trend reports.

The purpose of the meeting was to acquaint the Ambassador with the newly formed friendship group following the recent parliamentary elections.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions about deepening ties between the two nations. They exchanged views on continuing knowledge and expertise exchange in agriculture, the food industry, and healthcare, as well as increasing mutual visits and boosting collaboration in these fields.

Kamran Bayramov, head of the working group, noted that 2024 and 2025 have been particularly significant years for expanding Azerbaijan-Latvia relations. He pointed out that 2024 marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties, celebrated through a series of political, economic, and humanitarian events, along with reciprocal visits.

The meeting highlighted the notable uptick in reciprocal visits this year, which have been instrumental in advancing bilateral cooperation.

In May 2025, Latvia’s Minister of Agriculture visited Azerbaijan to participate in exhibitions focused on agriculture and the food industry. In August, Latvia’s Minister of Health traveled to Azerbaijan, attended a gastroenterology congress, and met with members of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s Friendship Group. Just days earlier, a delegation led by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health, Teymur Musayev, visited Latvia for a working mission that included high‑level meetings and culminated in the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the two countries’ health ministries on healthcare and medical science.

The talks also stressed strengthening interparliamentary cooperation. Both sides underscored the growth of ties between the Azerbaijani Parliament and Latvia’s Saeima, the plan for reciprocal visits, and the importance of mutual support for each other’s positions on international stages.

The Latvian ambassador received a detailed briefing on Azerbaijan’s recent developments and regional dynamics, including ongoing efforts to advance the peace process with Armenia, outcomes from the Washington Summit, reconstruction and restoration of liberated territories, and the implementation of the “Great Return” state program. The discussion emphasized the political, economic, and humanitarian importance of fostering lasting regional peace.

Participants at the meeting included members of the Azerbaijan–Latvia Interparliamentary Relations Working Group, such as MPs Sevil Mikayılova, Elchin Mirzabeyli, Azer Allahveranov, Mahir Suleymanli, Malik Hasanov, Aydin Huseynov, and other officials.
