Ethiopia's Unity: A Celebration of Diversity and Progress!
Addis Ababa, December 7, 2025 – House of Federation Speaker Agegnehu Teshager believes that Ethiopia's Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Day is a powerful force in uniting the country and strengthening bonds between its diverse communities.
This year, the spotlight shines on Hosena City in the Central Ethiopia Region, which is hosting a symposium themed 'Democratic Consensus for National Unity.'
This event is a prelude to the 20th Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Day, which will be officially celebrated tomorrow.
During his opening speech, Agegnehu highlighted that this annual celebration has provided a platform for Ethiopia's varied nations, nationalities, and peoples to share their values, experiences, and cultures since its beginning. This has helped increase public awareness and create a positive image of the regions. But here's where it gets interesting: the speaker noted that the celebration has played a crucial role in fostering unity, solidarity, and a sense of brotherhood among Ethiopians since the national reform.
And this is the part most people miss: this year's celebration is especially significant. It comes after the completion and inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the launch of several other major national projects. According to Agegnehu, the occasion aligns with a period of significant development progress in Ethiopia.
A key focus of the symposium will be a document centered on federalism, which will be presented and discussed, with future directions outlined. Could this be a point of debate? What do you think about the role of federalism in Ethiopia's unity? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
