Prepare yourself, Frozen fans! Your favorite EPCOT ride, Frozen Ever After, is about to undergo a major transformation that could spark some serious debate! Disney has officially announced that the ride will be temporarily closing its doors for a refurbishment focused on upgrading its beloved characters.
Specifically, Frozen Ever After will be shutting down on January 26, 2026. But don't despair! The closure is relatively brief, with a planned reopening slated for sometime in February of the same year. The reason for this temporary hiatus? To install brand-new Audio-Animatronics figures for Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff. These aren't just any upgrades; they're a complete overhaul.
Remember those screen-projected faces that were considered revolutionary when the ride first opened in 2016, replacing the classic Maelstrom attraction in the Norway pavilion? They were groundbreaking, marking the first time Disney utilized all-electric Audio-Animatronics and combined electric motors with 3D printing technology in this way. And this is the part most people miss: This technology paved the way for many advancements we see in Disney attractions today, becoming standard practice across the parks.
Well, those projections are getting a serious upgrade! Disney is moving to fully articulated, physical faces, similar to what was introduced with the brand-new Frozen land, World of Frozen, at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2023. Imagine the difference! Instead of relying on projections, you'll see incredibly lifelike, expressive faces on your favorite characters. The Hong Kong version has already wowed guests, and now EPCOT is next in line.
