A shocking revelation has come to light about a care home in Halifax, where residents' most fundamental needs were neglected, leading to a crisis that has sparked widespread concern.
The Woodfield Care Home in Greetland has been placed under special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection that uncovered serious issues. The home, which provides care for up to 36 individuals, including those with dementia, sensory impairments, and physical disabilities, has been downgraded from 'good' to 'inadequate'.

Victoria Marsden, CQC's deputy director of operations for adult social care in the north, highlighted a disturbing incident: "A person living with dementia, who lacked capacity, left the building unnoticed by staff on multiple occasions, placing them at serious risk of harm."

Staff failed to complete care plans, neglecting to include important details about residents' preferences and wishes. A relative expressed concern about their loved one's appearance, attributing it to a lack of staff support with personal care.
While the report acknowledged that staff were "kind and caring," it emphasized that they were not adequately supported by leadership to deliver safe care. Leaders also failed to ensure sufficient staffing levels, resulting in delays in support for residents.
Marsden emphasized the need for rapid and sustained improvements, stating, "We will continue to monitor the home closely to keep people safe during this critical time."
