LOUDNESS isn't just a band – they're trailblazers. Formed in 1981, they shattered barriers by becoming the first Japanese band to sign with an international label (Atlantic Records in 1984) and the first to perform at the iconic Madison Square Garden, even opening for Mötley Crüe. Their 1985 album Thunder in the East and the single Crazy Nights cemented their global legacy, peaking at No. 4 in Japan and No. 74 on the U.S. Billboard chart.
And this is the part most people miss: Despite lineup changes over the decades, LOUDNESS remains a force to be reckoned with. The current roster features three original members – the powerhouse vocals of Minoru Niihara, the blistering guitar work of Akira Takasaki, and the thunderous bass of Masayoshi Yamashita – alongside drummer Masayuki Suzuki, who joined in 2009.
The band's journey hasn't been without heartbreak. Original drummer Munetaka Higuchi passed away in 2008 after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Niihara's departure in 1988 led to a brief stint with American singer Mike Vescera before former EZO frontman Masaki Yamada took over. In 2001, Takasaki reunited the original lineup, bringing Niihara, Yamashita, and Higuchi back together.
Controversial question: With their groundbreaking legacy, does LOUDNESS deserve more recognition in the global metal scene? Or have they already achieved their rightful place in history? Let us know in the comments!
LOUDNESS's 45th-anniversary tour isn't just a celebration of their music – it's a testament to their enduring impact on heavy metal. Don't miss your chance to be part of this historic moment!
