MGallery's New Luxury Retreat: A Coastal Paradise on Oléron Island (2026)

MGallery Collection is expanding its footprint with a new, remarkable property on Oléron Island, nestled between pine forests and the sea. This springboard project marks the transformation of the 1970s-era Novotel Thalassa into Bel Hôtel Oléron – MGallery Collection, slated to open in April 2026. The venture results from an intensified collaboration between Accor and CLR Hôtels, a CGR Group subsidiary based in La Rochelle, known for cinema, catering, hospitality, and wellness. Together, they aim to deliver a distinguished luxury hotel that honors Oléron’s natural elements and environment.

“After the success of MGallery La Grande Terrasse Hotel & Spa La Rochelle and the foundation ceremony for the upcoming MGallery in Valmorel, I’m thrilled to extend our partnership with the CGR Group on the Oléron project. I can’t wait to bring this memorable place to life, where water, wind, wood, and light converge in a seaside setting that invites reconnection.” – Maud Bailly, Managing Director, Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems

A sanctuary where forest meets sea

Positioned between the Saint-Trojan national forest and Gatseau Beach, the property sits within a protected Natura 2000 area. The redesign will deliver 102 rooms, including eight suites, with views either over the pine forest or the ocean. The architectural concept draws inspiration from Oléron’s seaside houses, using natural materials, pale woods, sandy tones, and mineral hues to craft a bright, calming ambiance.

Culinary excellence will be led by Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire, who envisions a vibrant, authentic cuisine that celebrates the island’s maritime and land-based bounty. The menu will emphasize seasonality and local producers, including oyster farmers, market gardeners, breeders, and artisans. Dining options include a main restaurant with a terrace, an intimate Chef’s Table, two bars (indoor and outdoor), and a beach club. A signature dish centered on Oléron oysters will honor the island’s sea-going heritage.

The hotel will also house a spa and marine thalassotherapy center, continuing the legacy of the historic site. Guests can enjoy an indoor pool, hammam, a glass-walled sauna, a herbal tea room, and 27 treatment rooms (including several for couples). Outdoor wellness experiences, such as yoga by the waves, pine-tree meditation, and calm-water paddleboarding, will deepen the sense of immersion in nature.

A strong environmental and regional commitment

Developed within a protected ecological framework, the project was planned in collaboration with local authorities and the Ministry of Ecological Transition to safeguard surrounding flora and fauna. Menus and experiences will highlight Oléron’s local producers, strengthening the region’s food and craft ecosystems.

With this Atlantic-opening, MGallery Collection continues its selective growth in France, nearing 40 hotels and expanding its presence along the west coast where ocean meets countryside.

MGallery’s mission is to offer travelers immersive experiences in characterful locations where stays become lasting memories, whether in bustling cities, along coastlines, or atop alpine peaks.
