Pam St Clement Returns as Pat Butcher in Emotional EastEnders Dementia Episode (2026)

Get ready for a heartwarming and controversial twist in the beloved BBC soap, EastEnders! Pat Butcher, the iconic character played by Pam St Clement, is making a special comeback this Christmas.

For over two decades, Pat Evans (formerly Butcher) captivated audiences with her straightforward demeanor and unique fashion sense, particularly her iconic earrings. Although Pat passed away in 2012, she made a memorable reappearance in 2016 as a figment of Peggy's imagination during her final moments.

This time, Pat will grace our screens once more, alongside Paul Bradley as Nigel, in a poignant episode exploring the challenges of dementia. But here's where it gets controversial... Pat, who died years ago, will interact with Nigel, whose memories transport him back to the 90s.

"I was thrilled and honored to revisit Walford and be a part of Nigel's emotional journey," St Clement, 83, shared. "It felt like coming home, reuniting with my EastEnders family."

Pat's return is timely, as Nigel's dementia symptoms escalate following an emotional film screening. St Clement first joined EastEnders in 1986, becoming an integral part of Albert Square's drama until Pat's tragic demise.

Executive producer Ben Wadey expressed, "Having Pam St Clement back for this special episode is a privilege. Pat Evans is an iconic Walford resident, and it was a joy to see her and Pam back in The Queen Vic, offering support to Nigel."

Pat's comeback is part of a series of returns by classic characters to Walford. Anita Dobson's Angie Watts, the iconic Queen Vic landlady, made a surprise visit to her daughter Sharon during the show's 40th anniversary episode. Additionally, Cindy Beale, Zoe Slater, Grant Mitchell, and Chrissie Watts have all made recent appearances.

This unique episode promises to be a tearjerker, blending nostalgia and a thought-provoking exploration of dementia. And this is the part most people miss... How will Pat's presence impact Nigel's journey? Will it offer comfort or confusion? Join the discussion and share your thoughts on this controversial yet heartwarming twist!
