Two Penn State players are projected to be selected in the new two-round NFL mock draft, including an unexpected name: Newsstand
Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 4 include a new mock draft, headlines of the day, and more. ESPN's Jordan Reid made predictions for the first 64 picks in this year's NFL draft following the Combine. Vega Ioane is the first Nittany Lion on the list, projected to go at No. 14 to the Baltimore Ravens. According to Reid, replacing the weak link at right guard, Daniel Faalele, with Ioane could significantly improve the offensive line.
Ioane, a steady blocker for the Nittany Lions, allowed only two pressures and zero sacks last season. The Ravens' line gave up 45 sacks in 2025, the 12th most in the NFL, and Ioane's strength, feet, and base would enhance quarterback Lamar Jackson's protection. As a plug-and-play starter at either guard spot, Ioane is a valuable addition.
The second Nittany Lion on the list is safety Zakee Wheatley, projected to go at No. 57 to the Chicago Bears. This appears to be Wheatley's first inclusion in any mock drafts this offseason. Safety is a critical need for the Bears, as their top four safeties from last season are not under contract. Wheatley, an underrated free safety, can play atop the defense and is willing to come downhill in run support.
In other news, the PIAA Wrestling Championships start on Thursday. You can track Penn State recruits' performance in the prep postseason here. BWI will also provide comprehensive coverage of the high school state championships throughout the weekend.
