The International Cinematographers Guild has made a bold move, shuttering its nearly century-old ICG Magazine to embrace new ways of connecting with its members. This decision, made after thoughtful discussion, marks a significant shift in how the union communicates with its approximately 10,000 members. The last issue of ICG Magazine will be in December, bringing an end to its long-standing publication history. Since its inception in 1929 as The International Photographer, the magazine has been a valuable resource, offering profiles of members and features on new film and television releases, particularly focusing on camera and publicity work. The union's national president, John Lindley, expressed deep gratitude for the magazine's contributions, acknowledging the talented individuals whose creativity and commitment sustained it throughout its history. As a replacement, the union is launching a new bi-monthly printed newsletter, available both online and in print, set to begin in early 2026. This transition also includes a podcast, hosted by ICG Magazine executive editor David Geffner, which has so far published six episodes. Despite the closure of ICG Magazine, other Hollywood unions continue to publish internal periodicals, ensuring that the industry remains well-informed and connected. The SAG-AFTRA Magazine, DGA Monthly, Written By (the Writers Guild of America West magazine), and Cinemontage (from the Motion Picture Editors Guild) are still thriving, demonstrating the ongoing importance of internal communication within the industry.
